EDTA-ACID
CAS NO.:60-00-4
Function
EDTA-ACID is a white crystalline powder with a melting point of 240°C (decomposition). It is insoluble in cold water, alcohol and general organic solvents, slightly soluble in hot water, and soluble in sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate and ammonia solutions.
Usage:
1. Chemical analysis
EDTA acid is widely used in complexometric titration in chemical analysis, especially for quantitative analysis of metal ions.
2. Water treatment
Metal ion removal, as a water softener, EDTA acid is sometimes added to detergents to improve cleaning effects, especially in industrial cleaning, for the removal of metal ion contamination.
3. Medical use
Treatment of metal poisoning: Similar to EDTA-4Na, EDTA acid is also used to treat metal poisoning such as lead and mercury.
Hemodialysis: EDTA acid is used in hemodialysis as an anticoagulant to prevent blood coagulation.
4. Agricultural application
EDTA acid is also used in agriculture for the preparation of chelated fertilizers.
5. Cosmetics
In cosmetics, EDTA acid can be used as a chelating agent for metal ions and can also be used in some skin care products to reduce potential irritation to the skin by chelating heavy metal ions.
6. Industrial Applications
EDTA acid can be used for metal surface treatment to remove pollutants or oxides from the metal surface; in the electronics industry such as semiconductor manufacturing, EDTA acid is sometimes used to remove metal ions to prevent them from interfering with product quality.
7. Food Additives
In some cases, it is also used as an antioxidant in food to prevent oxidation reactions caused by metal ions and increase the shelf life of food.
